35mm Digital Film

After an April fools joke by the film company RE-35 a student from Hongik University designed a digital film concept.  The concept replaces the film in the camera with a digital sensor that is hooked up to a memory card where the film use to be.  The concept has not yet been brought to life but it would be interesting to see what happens to the 35mm camera market.  Film had been on a steady downfall since digital cameras were introduced, perhaps companies like Kodak could start to manufacture this digital film so people can still use old vintage 35mm cameras. Even if it doesn't help the film industry I will still be one of the first people to buy this.

Favorite Flash Site

I'm not a huge fan of sites composed of mostly flash because they are usually slow and complicated, although a few people know how to use it well. One of my favorite flash sites is the site for actor Jim Carry http://www.jimcarrey.com/ .  This site is mostly flash and instead of buttons the site features different icons from Jim's movies. The site is well designed, creative, and fits well with Jim's crazy personality.

WEEK 8: Well Designed Item

As a Graphic Designer I always look at products critically, always trying to simplify them or change them for the better. There are some objects that are clearly created with a specific user in mind and objects created for a more general use, some with good design and some not. I have shot photography since I was about 8 and over the years I have used several different 35mm, large format, medium format, and digital cameras.  My favorite camera interface design is the Nikon D80. The camera has a handle grip that contour to your hand for a easy grip. There are two brackets that control the shutter speed and F stop, one for the pointer finger and thumb.  This allows for easy and quick bracketing which is great for those one time shots in weddings. Every button on this camera is easily reachable from the grip handle, making this camera's interface well designed.
